Member Spotlight: Joy Jones

There isn't one route into social intelligence, or one way to practise it. Member Spotlight introduces the people across the SI Lab community, the work they're doing, and the different perspectives they bring to the profession. This month, we meet Joy Jones, xxx from Altria who is focused on how insights get used, and how social intelligence can play a bigger role in the decisions organisations make.
Member Spotlight: Joy Jones
Associate Manager, Consumer Marketplace Insights and Innovation, Altria
How did you end up doing this kind of work? (Not your CV — the real story.)
I ended up in social intelligence through my broader work in consumer insights and digital research, where I saw the opportunity to use unstructured digital conversations to better understand evolving consumer behaviors and inform innovation and strategy.
What's your specific lens or speciality within social intelligence? What do you do that most practitioners don't?
My specialty is integrating social intelligence into enterprise decision-making, not just reporting and building out actionable consumer-driven narratives.
What are you actively working on or trying to figure out in your practice right now — professionally, intellectually, or both?
I am exploring how to make social intelligence more proactive and embedded in every stage of decision making rather than reactive reporting.
If a fellow practitioner was going to reach out to you for a conversation, what would you want them to know about how you think or how you work?
If someone reaches out to me, I would want them to know that I think in terms of efficient application and impact. I care about how insights get used, not just what they say, and I value clear, structured thinking, collaboration, and translating complexity into something approachable, actionable and accessible.
